A Refuge Of Health
Tucked away in a suburb of Denver, Colorado, is a refugee health clinic called Mango House. Serving only refugees in its medical and dental clinics, Mango House is the largest facility of its kind in Colorado and the greater West. At its busiest, it can see upwards of over 100 refugee patients per day. Founded by Dr. P.J. Parmar, himself an immigrant, the mission of Mango House is to ostensibly help those in most need.
As the pandemic continues to overwhelm medical clinics, Mango House fills a much-needed gap in medical care for refugees during this trying time. Mango House is a beacon of hope for some of the most vulnerable in our community. Access to health care is one of the most significant challenges refugees face, but because of Mango House, their burden is eased somewhat - for many, it’s a refuge of health.
My role was the only photojournalist/photographer on the project. I was the one who found the story and built access to document it as well. There was no photo assistance otherwise on the project.
